KNUTE Institution of Doctoral Candidacy admission rules for
2009-2010 academic year

    The Institution of Doctoral Candidacy of Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics was opened in 1994. Nowadays the preparation of highly skilled scientific and pedagogical specialists in the Institution of Doctoral Candidacy is carried out in the following scientific specialties:
05.18.15 - science of commodity
05.18.16 - technology of food
08.00.03 - economy and management of the national economy
08.00.04 - economy and enterprise management
08.00.09 - accounting, analyzing and audit

    Education and tuition fees are covered by state finance or sponsored by legal entities and individuals on a contract basis. The program takes no longer than three years on general terms.
    Persons to be admitted shall have the academic degree of a Candidate of Sciences, scientific achievements and publications on the relevant scientific discipline; they shall be capable of performing fundamental, research and applied scientific investigations on a high scientific level.
    The Institution assigns a scientific consultant -- a highly skilled science and pedagogical specialist, Doctor of Sciences - to a doctoral candidate in order to assist him/her in preparation of a dissertation; the consultant shall be personally responsible for qualitative and on-time fulfillment of a dissertation by a doctoral candidate.
    Annually doctoral candidates report to the Scientific Board of KNUTE on fulfillment of an individual plan after preliminary discussions with a department and a faculty. After the plans are completed an assessment is carried out and decision is made as to his/her further training in the Institution. The results of the assessment are approved by the Rector.

The doctoral candidates entitled to:
1) receive a government grant if education is government-financed according to the existing legislation;
2) be provided with accommodation in a hostel for singles;
3) job placement according to an agreement if education is government-financed;
4) annual two calendar month holidays included to the general training period in case of a full time education;

    Mutual doctoral candidates' and KNUTE duties are defined by the agreement signed within 10-day term of the Institute admission date; a doctoral candidate may be expelled from the Institute for breach of KNUTE regulations, committal of unlawful actions as well as non-fulfillment of an individual plan without good reasons.

KNUTE Postgraduate Study was opened in 1966. Nowadays education is carried out in the following disciplines:

    Education and tuition fees are covered by state finance or sponsored by legal entities and individuals on a contract basis. Persons selected on a competitive basis shall have higher education and Specialist or Master Degree.
    The program takes no longer than three years for full time education and four years for education without interruption of present employment.
    On the formal admission by the Rector's order a post graduate is assigned a scientific consultant - a Doctor of Sciences or, as an exception, a Candidate of Sciences (by the Scientific Board decision).
    A postgraduate's scientific consultant shall supervise a dissertation, control the fulfillment of an approved individual plan and be personally responsible for preparation of a dissertation on a high level. A subject of a dissertation and an individual plan of postgraduate's work shall be approved by the Scientific Board of a Faculty within three months of the postgraduate course admission date.
    An individual plan of work includes: taking examinations for the Candidate's degree on a major discipline, a foreign language and philosophy; credits on the disciplines determined by the Scientific Board of the University; 3 publications on the subject of dissertation research in professional issues before the last assessment; participation in scientific and practical conferences; participation in scientific and research work with a state registration number; pedagogical practice. If necessary, an additional examination can be determined by the Specialized Scientific Board of an institution/establishment where the defense of a dissertation takes place.
    A postgraduate works according to an individual plan of work; twice a year (April, October) he/she shall report on the performance at a department meeting, and annually (October) shall be assessed by a research supervisor.
    According to the assessment results by the Rector's order a postgraduate is transferred to the next year of study or expelled from the postgraduate course.
    A postgraduate who studies without interruption of present employment and performs his/her individual plan successfully shall be given an additional 30 calendar days paid vacation at the workplace in order to take examinations for the Candidate's degree and to work on the dissertation; if he/she wishes once a week a postgraduate can take a day off work which is paid at a rate of 50% average payment

The postgraduates are entitled to:
1) use educational and production, scientific, cultural, sport and recreational basis of the University;
2) receive all kinds of open scientific information and consultation;
3) participate in scientific activity of the department and faculty;
4) receive a state grant of a fixed amount in case of a full time state-financed education;
5) suspend studying for good reasons and continue it further;
6) annual two calendar month holidays included to the general training period in case of a full time education;
7) combine jobs according to the legislation of Ukraine;
8) safe and harmless working and studying conditions;
9) be provided with accommodation in a hostel for singles for the period of studying n case of a full time state-financed education;
10) job placement according to an agreement if education is state-financed or on the contract terms.

The postgraduates must:
1) keep to the legislation terms, moral and ethical norms of behavior;
2) acquire deep knowledge, practical skills, workmanship, improve general cultural level;
3) master methodology on carrying out of scientific researches;
4) fulfill an individual dissertation work plan;
5) report on dissertation performance at a meeting of the department and the Scientific Board of the faculty;
6) defend a dissertation or submit it to a Specialized Scientific Board at a fixed term;
7) keep to the regulations and rules of KNTEU.

    Mutual postgraduates' and KNUTE duties are defined by the agreement signed within 10-day term of the postgraduate course admission date.
