THE HISTORY OF KYIV NATIONAL UNIVERSITY
OF TRADE AND ECONOMICS (KNUTE)
The mission of the University is to work for the present and future generations
Its history dates back to the Kyiv branch of the All-Union Extra-mural Institute of Soviet Trade, established in 1946. In accordance with the act of Council of Ministers of Ukraine № 50 of 14.01.59 the branch was transferred to the subordination of Kharkov Institute of Soviet Trade, and in the same year - to Donetsk Institute of Soviet Trade.
According to the act of USSR Council of Ministers № 195 of 04.03.66, Kyiv Institute of Trade and Economics was established. And in accordance with the act of Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine № 542 of 29.08.94 it was transformed into Kyiv State University of Trade and Economics.
The regulation of the President of Ukraine № 1059/2000 of 11.09.2000 has given a "national" status to the university. More stages of development of university are highlighted in the monograph "History of Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics" (group of authors headed by A.A. Mazaraki, 2006).
The university is a leader in reforming higher education in Ukraine, it has high rating in the national educational environment. It was the first to make significant updates to the content of education and a broad introduction to the learning process of innovative technologies based on information, credit-transfer system, advanced methods of evaluating students' knowledge and so forth. The principles of the Bologna process towards European integration are consistently implemented. The integrated gradual education is being actively implemented. The system of retraining and qualification for national and international programs, including program "Master of Business Administration", "European Management - CeMBA", is recognized all over Ukraine.
In 2006 Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics joined the world-renowned universities of the Great Charter.
The achievements of the university in 2007, as well as in previous years, were awarded by a golden medal at the All-Ukrainian educational exhibition.
With its great scientific and methodological developments and practical experience in the implementation of modern forms and methods of educational process, the University serves as the scientific and methodological center for higher educational establishments in Ukraine on training in such fields as "Management and administration," "Service area" in merchandise and commercial businesses, as well as for the system of State Treasury of Ukraine. It is a developer of state standards in these areas.
Training, retraining and qualification improvement is done on the public orders and agreements with legal entities and private individuals in foreign and domestic trade, financial and banking system, customs, competition policy, insurance business, economics, entrepreneurship, innovation management, marketing, advertising business, commercial and financial law, accounting, financial analysis and control, examination of goods and services, tourism, hotel and restaurant management, consumer protection, exhibition activities, commercial activities in the real estate market, psychology, philology (translation).
The university trains highly qualified specialists in bachelor and master programs. It aims at the growing level of quality of education. 37 thousand students study in the university.
The university, in addition to basic establishment, where there are 5 faculties, consists of 4 educational institutions, 8 colleges and higher commercial schools located in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Vinnytsia, Chernivtsi, Khmelnytskyi, Uzhgorod, Kolomyia, Yalta.
Teaching staff is qualified academically and professionally. 30 employees were given the honorary ranks of Ukraine. 6 scholars were elected as the members of the National Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine and sector academies. The university is running an effective system of improving teacher skills and motivation of teachers.
The amateur creativity of students is diverse and productive. There are: a scientific community of students and young teachers, a cultural center, a number of professional youth clubs, and sports sections. The students are represented in the bodies of the university administration.
The university has strong research capabilities. The vector of university science is aimed at developing fundamental and applied problems of current social and economic development of Ukraine. There are 11 scientific schools, postgraduate and doctoral studies. The findings are discussed at international and national scientific and practical conferences, on the pages of university journals "Visnyk KNTEU" ("Bulletin of KNUTE")," Products and markets" ("Tovary i rynky"), as well as highlighted in books and numerous articles. The university provides favorable conditions for student scientific activities. The university students have a word at the Ukrainian conferences, contests where they get prizes for their findings.
At the university there are two specialized academic councils for awarding degrees of candidate and doctor of sciences.
In the field of improving the specialists training, their employment, providing scientific and technological activities the university cooperates with ministries, departments, academic institutions, organizations, enterprises, creative unions and associations on the basis of long-term agreements. It has especially efficient relationship with the Audit Chamber, the National Bank, the Ministry of Economy, Finance, Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, State Treasury, State Tax Administration, the Customs Service, the Anti-Monopoly Committee, the Pension Fund, the Main Control and Revision Office of Ukraine, Chamber of Commerce of Ukraine, State Tourism and Resorts service, JSB "Nadra", "Aval" and many other agencies.
We can observe constantly developing and fixed positions of the university at the international level. There are longstanding creative relationships with 48 foreign universities in France, Poland, Greece, Germany, China, Slovakia, Russia, Belarus, Moldova and other countries. The exchange of students and teachers is implemented. International projects to integrate higher education, retraining and professional development are carried out.
The university is a member of 10 prestigious international organizations such as the International Association of Universities, European Association for International Education, International Union of commodity and technology, European Retail Academy, the Russian Association of Business Education and others.
The university meets international standards of material and technical equipment. It has created favorable social and living conditions for students and staff. At their disposal: dining room, two infirmary, barber shop, book and pharmacy kiosks, 5 cafes, laundry and other household outlets, sports facilities complex, and 5 equipped dormitories. The university area is well decorated, there is also a park area.
